The EU project, which is funded by the Euregio Rhine-Waal, consists of three components. The cross-border excursions with German and Dutch schoolchildren form the basis for written and illustrated stories about their respective Hanseatic cities.
In addition, a scientific advisory board with German and Dutch experts will examine the shared history of the Hanseatic League and provide impetus for cross-border activities.
There will be no limits to creativity in this project. Stories and artistic interpretations can therefore cross the border into the world of fantasy and play into the present. All of this will then be compiled into a book with richly illustrated stories in German and Dutch.
Joint meetings of the two historical societies in Rees and Zutphen will round off the project. Here, ideas for joint activities will be exchanged.
The project ‘Rees and Zutphen: shared history – shared future’ is made possible by the Interreg programme Germany-Netherlands and its programme partners and is co-financed by the European Union (EU).
