"Hansemahl Münster"

and guided tours on Hanseatic history

3. May 2025 | 12:00 PM Münster

"Hansemahl Münster":

Yellow, red and white Münster flags adorn the gabled houses on Prinzipalmarkt, a long table and lounge furniture invite you to take a seat and the city centre merchants serve Westphalian snacks: Münster Marketing and the Initiative Starke Innenstadt (ISI) will once again transform Prinzipalmarkt into the city's most beautiful open-air dining hall and invite you to the Hanseatic feast on Saturday, 3 May from 12 pm to 6 pm.

Guests can look forward to the familiar elements of the popular event: the 100-metre-long table with white covers and colourful, regional spring flower decorations stretches from the historic town hall to Salzstraße. Along the table, merchants in white Hanseatic aprons look after the guests and serve snacks. There are four varieties to choose from: Cheese, minced meat, ham and a vegan option. The self-service drinks selection includes regional beer and soft drinks as well as fair trade coffee.

Musical entertainment will be provided by two stages - alternating between live music and DJ sounds.

Guided tours on Hanseatic history:

If you would like to travel back in time to the history of the Hanseatic League, you can choose between several guided tours of the city:

The tour ‘Hanseatic City of Münster - a merchant city in transition’ starts at 12.30 pm and at 4.30 pm in the town hall courtyard by the Chillida benches. This is also the meeting point for the tour ‘Münster in Europe: A city with significance’ at 1.30 pm.

The guided tour ‘Women and children in Hanseatic times’ starts at 3.30 pm at the corner of Domplatz/Pferdegasse in front of the Fürstenberghaus.

Especially for children aged nine and over, we offer a ‘Hanseatic Explorer Tour - In the footsteps of the merchants’. We start at 3 pm at the Maxi Tower and end the tour at 3.45 pm with a visit to the City Museum.

All tours are free of charge, but the number of participants is limited. Tickets are available on the day of the event in the information tent on Prinzipalmarkt.

A visit to the City Museum (Salzstraße 28) is also worthwhile on Hanseatic Day: from 11 am to 6 pm, the exhibition ‘The Hanseatic City’ can be seen in one of the 33 cabinets on the city's history.
