Uelzen has held the official title of Hanseatic city since 2016. The first written evidence of the town's involvement in the powerful Hanseatic League dates back to 1374. Despite some destruction, including during World War II, half-timbered facades, brick Gothic buildings and other historical ensembles, including St. Mary's Church with its provostry, one of the oldest council wine shops in Europe and the Topfmarkt (today: Schnellenmarktviertel) as a former trading center, remain witnesses to our lively history. About the project
The HanseBierTreck brings people, culture and history together. On the historic trade route, cycling enthusiasts bring the export hit Einbecker beer to Lübeck on cargo bikes. Just like in the days of the medieval Hanseatic League, without any CO2 emissions. Along the way, the trek will stop off in several Hanseatic towns along the route, with a local event planned in each town. On July 6, the trek reaches its destination: Lübeck, the Queen of the Hanseatic League.
