Second volume of "HanseLinks" presented in Lübeck

Calender Icon 3. July 2025

On 30 June, pupils from Lübeck and Stade presented the second volume of HanseLinks, which was created in collaboration with young people from several European Hanseatic cities. The event took place in the Beichthaus, which is part of the European Hansemuseum and provided an atmospheric setting for the stories from the Hanseatic era.

After the event was opened by Dr Felicia Sternfeld, Director of the European Hansemuseum, and Kai Kuchenbecker, Headmaster of the Geschwister Prenski School in Lübeck, Lübeck pupils Nike Stöcklin and Jola Wöltjen presented the project. They talked about the joy of writing, immersing themselves in the world of the Middle Ages and the enriching journeys to other European countries. Pupils from a total of 17 Hanseatic cities contributed to the book. In addition to Lübeck, schools from Gdansk, Harderwijk, La Rochelle, Emmerich, Kaunas and Great Yarmouth have already contributed to the first volume of ‘HanseLinks’. In the second volume, stories from Stade, Wismar, Braunschweig, Bruges, Torun, Slubice, Kalmar, Visby, Ulvila and Pärnu have been added. It is therefore not surprising that the book comprises over 500 pages.

What all the stories have in common is that they all start with a historical event in their own city. If you read the book carefully, you will notice that there are also connecting elements between individual stories. This is because the pupils from the various Hanseatic cities meet to exchange ideas and develop their stories together. In addition to working on the book, intercultural exchange is at the centre of the project.

The book "Hanse-links. Individuality in Community" is available in online bookshops under ISBN 978-3-9826906-1-2.
