Following a refurbishment, the Schwedenspeicher Museum in Stade will reopen its doors on 1 May. A major exhibition on the Hanseatic era will be presented on the first floor of the building. The history of the Hanseatic League is brought to life through the example of the Hanseatic city of Stade, which is representative of many other medium-sized Hanseatic cities of the late Middle Ages.

The exhibition brings the world of the Hanseatic League to life across five themed sections. Alongside interactive displays and numerous three-dimensional graphics, you can expect to see large-scale illustrations by the artist Paula Müller. Many of the museum’s exhibits originate from the famous 1989 excavation at Stade harbour.

From 10 May, the museum will also host a special exhibition on experimental archaeology by the University of Hamburg.
