Merseburg

The cathedral and university city of Merseburg is located in the south of Saxony-Anhalt and is one of the oldest cities in central Germany. The city on the Saale is especially known for its cultural and historical heritage, such as the Merseburg Spells or the cathedral and castle ensemble. As the oldest surviving evidence of Germanic paganism, the Merseburg Spells are one of the most important surviving pieces of writing in Old High German.
