The old Hanseatic town of Schwerte lies at the geographical centre of North Rhine-Westphalia, between the Sauerland and the Ruhr area. The Ruhr, which gives the region its name, flows through Schwerte over a length of 11 kilometres. The "Hanseatic City on the Ruhr" is a lively, medium-sized town surrounded by wooded mountain ranges and the scenic Ruhr Valley with the Ruhr Valley Cycle Path, which accompanies the course of the river from Winterberg to Duisburg. Schwerte lies in the middle of this route. A lovable town with much to discover and much to offer its residents, guests and businesses.
