Magdeburg by the river Elbe

Magdeburg

Magdeburg not only surprises with its more than 800-year-old cathedral, Emperor Otto the Great or the Hundertwasser architectural project. Magdeburg is a city on the Elbe - with numerous offers on and on the river!

The city was already involved in the emerging Hanseatic League in the 13th century. The main exports were leather goods and grain from the fertile Börde soil. Magdeburg was an active member of the Saxon Association of Cities. Magdeburg law experienced an unusual career up to modern times. As a municipal law, it regulated urban coexistence. "First come, first served!" It promoted trade and business. Many cities adopted the Magdeburg law and the establishment of a jury chair.
