Soest Feud 2025

Soest once again becomes the meeting place for European re-enactors

1. Aug 2025 until 3. Aug 2025 Soest

From 1 to 3 August, Soest will be the meeting place for the European medieval scene for the ninth time, hosting around 900 participants from 12 nations. The Soest Feud is a spectacular event of regional history with European dimensions. Every two years, it is the starting point for a varied programme that brings the autumn of the Middle Ages to life and offers hands-on history for the whole family.

A town (re)experiencing the Middle Ages
The old Hanseatic town of Soest, with its medieval ramparts still largely intact, is once again the authentic backdrop for one of the largest medieval festivals in Germany on the first weekend in August. The background is the attempt by the Archbishop of Cologne to storm the walls of the town of Soest with his European army of mercenaries in the middle of the 15th century and bring the rebellious citizens back to their senses. As the people of Soest, not Cologne, are still reenacting and honouring this event in 2025, you can imagine in whose favour the whole thing ended.

Once again, the town of Soest is therefore facing a three-day "siege", but unlike in the Middle Ages, the "besiegers" are welcomed with open arms in the here and now. The numerous medieval enthusiasts travelling to Soest have known each other for years, many of them are even friends and particularly enjoy meeting up in the old Hanseatic town, which is famous for its authentic approach to its history.

For an entire weekend, a colourful and entertaining hustle and bustle with craftsmen, traders, minstrels and jugglers as well as a large army camp take visitors on a journey back to the late Middle Ages and bring history to life in a special way. Right in the centre of it all are the citizens of Soest, some of whom actively participate in the events with their whole families.
