The Hanseatic Guild, the merchants and the city of Wesel organise the historic Hanseatic Festival on the last weekend in October to celebrate Wesel's accession to the Hanseatic League in 1407. The Hanseatic Festival is now one of the best-known historical festivals in Germany and attracts thousands of guests to the Hanseatic city of Wesel on the Rhine every year.
