Hansemuseum celebrates Open Monument Day

Theme »Wahr-Zeichen. Witnesses of History«

8. Sep 2024 10:00 AM Lübeck

Under the motto “Wahr-Zeichen. Witnesses of History”, the nationwide Open Monument Day (European Heritage Day) will take place on Sunday, September 8, 2024, from 10:00 to 18:00. It could hardly be more fitting, as the castle monastery stands as a monumental witness to the eventful history of the city of Lübeck. On Open Monument Day, visitors can explore the special atmosphere of the former convent of the Dominican order with its well-preserved wall and ceiling paintings free of charge.

In addition, guests can look forward to a free program where they can learn more about the eventful history of the convent, which was founded around 1229, and its transformation from castle to monastery and from poorhouse to prison. At 1 p.m. there will be an expert guided tour with art historian Dr. Serafine Christine Kratzke, who has researched the castle monastery and is particularly interested in the impressive art-historical details.

In addition, the new guided tour “The Castle Monastery: Walls, Monks, Myths” will be offered for the first time at 11.00 am and 3.00 pm. The tour introduces museum guests to the unique history of the monument, which has been part of the EHM since 2015.
