Exhibition ENERGY

28. May 2023 until 17. Sep 2023 Zwolle

From 28 May to 17 September, the Koelwaterhal hosts its first-ever exhibition called ENERGY. In it, 19 artists from the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Austria, Spain and Switzerland stand on the shoulders of the open minds of the Hanseatic era.

Located on the river IJssel in an enchanting spot, Cooling Water Hall has a striking architecture due to its huge 10-metre-high glass hall that is mirrored in the 10-metre-deep basement rooms. This is where water from the river IJssel was treated for the adjacent IJssel power plant, which was demolished between 2016 and 2018.

Koelwaterhal, is an initiative by artist Ronald A. Westerhuis who wants to make it an experimental place for new connections between people in which we disconnect, go off the grid. Koelwaterhal provides space for artists for exhibitions, music, theatre and gatherings.

ENERGY, the first exhibition in Koelwaterhal, is linked to the Hanseatic Year 2023. 19 artists from the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Austria, Spain and Switzerland stand on the shoulders of the open minds of the Hanseatic era. The energy of the free thinking of the Hanseatic League, which carried Europe out of the dark Middle Ages, is mirrored in the inquisitive, sharp vulnerability and striving for a better world of the artists of ENERGY.

ENERGY is about nature, man, vanity, repentance, brilliance, damage, utopias and dystropias. With paintings, sculptures, video, lectures and performances.

Cooling Water Hall is open Wednesday to Sunday from 28 May to 17 September.

Participating artists are: Maudy Alferink, Tim Wes, Raul Walch, Joyce Overheul, Junte Uiterwijk, Céline Struger, Arne Quinze, Nadja Adelmann, Marieke Pauwels, Kim van Norren, Francesca Marti, Jasper Krabbé, Dr Gindi, Nick Ervinck, Agnes Duijves, Stief Desmet, Hans Temmerman, Ronald A.
