Artist's book "Connecting values
In 2020, the towns and municipalities belonging to the association of towns DIE HANSE honoured the values of the historical Hanseatic League and the association of towns DIE HANSE with the "Brilon Declaration" on the occasion of the 40th International Hanseatic Day of Modern Times and committed themselves to regular exchange.
The artist's book HANSEartWORKS "Values Connect" is part of this exchange process. Using the means of free art, HANSEartWORKS artists are asked to reflect on the development of the network of cities over a very long period of time. In doing so, they will contribute to cultural identity and promote the preservation and development of values in the association of cities. The title of the book, "Connecting Values", encourages us to look back at the existing connections between European Hanseatic cities and municipalities today and to look forward to values that could connect the association of cities in the future.
Each year, an artist from the current HANSEartWORKS exhibition is invited to artistically explore the values of the Hanseatic League on a book page. The finished work of art is presented at the respective HANSEartWORKS exhibition. The first work of art was created in 2021 by the Latvian painter Ilze Laizane.
The HANSEartWORKS artist's book was produced in Lübeck at the Blattgold bookbindery. It is a symbol of the sustainability of DIE HANSE. It will be donated to the European Hanseatic Museum in Lübeck at the end of the book project in over 200 years.
The documentation for the artists' book with the Brilon Declaration and information for artists and exhibitors can be downloaded here.
The HANSEartWORKS working group would like to thank all those who have contributed to this book project.
