Administration of the Hansa Convention: Department of culture/ Hansa-Office

The assumption for a succeed of this event was the fact that the responsibilities had to be delegated to various municipal departments of the city of Osnabrück and its Marketing & Tourism GmbH (OMT).

The following municipal departments worked in division of labour on this project:

  • Bureau for municipal councils: meetings and representative events
  • Department for media and internet: Internet appearance
  • Department for public relations: Media work
  • Department for citizens and order: Concerns of law and order
  • Museum for cultural history: Excursions
  • Adult Education Centre (VHS): Congress “History of science”, accompanying events
  • Department for children, youth and families: youthHans
  • Osnabrück Marketing & Tourism GmbH (OMT): Marketing, Hansa Market, Hansa Party

Hansa-working group

The Hansa-working group has been founded as a spanning gremium of municipal decision-making units. The first meeting took place at 26.08.2003. Until the Hansa-convention took place the members met several times annually:

2003: 3 meetings
2004: 6 meetings
2005: 5 meetings
2006: 2 meetings

Hansa-Office

The Hansa-Office was associated with the Department for culture and moved to the historical “Dreikronenhaus” in Old town. Together with the co-ordinators Martina Krause and Alfred Wübbena the work started with contribution of Nadine Frobitter, Alexandra Brauer and Susanne Dlubatz. Since February the team was endorsed by Bettina Mette and Petra Schwarzer and completed by Silke Wesemann in March.

In April this core team was enlarged by students of the University of Osnabrück: Volker Arnke, Stefan Berendes, Anika Gerull, Darren Grundorf and Christian Habenicht. Further events were co-ordinated by more staffers and freelancers.

Partners of the Hansa-Office

The OMT was also concerned with the Organisation and realization of the Hansa Convention.

The activities of youthHansa were coordinated by the Department for children, youth and families joint by the association “Forum Osnabrück und Soziales” (FOKuS) and the youthHansa-delegates Jan Bosse and Fabian Sturm, the street-culture-programme was also organized by the association FOKuS.

“Helps”

During the Hansa Convention an additional team of “helps” consisting of 50 pupils of the Graf-Stauffenberg-Gymnasium assisted as “Hansa-guides” for the participating cities. Further 10 students, the Fire Brigade, the Public Technical Aid and the German Red Cross cared for catering of the “helps” and for the needs of guests accommodated in a gym.
