"… widening the borders"
During several centuries Veliky Novgorod being a hanseatic city was
a connecting-link between medieval Europe and Russia, a peculiar
“door” into Europe, international integration and trade
center. It is not accidentally Veliky Novgorod became the
first Russian official member of Hansa League of New Time and the
only one Russian city that received the right to accept delegations
of European cities in 2009 as a host of XXIX Hansa Convention.
Medieval festival with rich cultural program, atmosphere of
openness, kindness and hospitality will allow to the participants
to present traditions, culture, history and contemporaneity of
their cities, take part in the discussion of hanseatic cities
problems.
The coming celebration gives to Veliky Novgorod not only the unique chance to realize its significance as of a city with hanseatic history, but also to open perspectives of comprehensive mutual cooperation with cities of modern Europe. At the same time European cities can receive the idea about modern Russia; find new resources, ideas and links; see new perspectives of joint successful work in the sphere of economy, policy, art and culture through Veliky Novgorod. That’s why XXIX Hansa Convention in Veliky Novgorod will be implemented under the slogan “…widening the borders”.

PROGRAM
According to the existing tradition, Hansa Convention in Veliky Novgorod will last for four days. During those days ceremonial receptions, business meetings and conferences will be implemented; at the historical part of the city novgorodians and guests from more than 100 European cities will engross into the medieval atmosphere, will meet street vendors and craftsmen, warriors and artists. Participants of the festival will be proposed to visit many excursions and to take a closer look at the history of our city and its memorials: Kremlin, monument to “The Millennium of Russia”, St. Sophia the God’s Wisdom Cathedral, glorious collection of ancient icons.
