HANSA TRAVEL SUITCASE / HANSAreisiKOHVER
HANSEartWORKS project of the 30th Hansa Convention 2010 in Pärnu
A suitcase is a highly necessary and practical thing for
travelling. We put our personal belongings, clothes, underwear,
toothbrushes and other necessary items in the suitcase. The
contents of the suitcase used to be private or even intimate; they
were not meant to be exposed to other people.
Nowadays, the significance of the suitcase has greatly changed; it
is no-one’s private concern any more. When we travel, our suitcases
are inspected and examined by all kinds of customs officials.
Fellow travellers can catch a glimpse of our private lives through
the x-ray monitors in airports. A suitcase is but a practical thing
for transporting one’s items when travelling. Today, millions of
people with millions of suitcases travel around the world every day
and those millions of suitcases contain millions of different
things.
In 2010, Pärnu will host the 30th Hanseatic Days. Thousands of Hansa participants will arrive at
Pärnu with their travel suitcases. If a suitcase has been packed by
an artist, it is not an ordinary suitcase any more. An artist’s
travel suitcase is something special; it is a work of art, an
installation, a peculiarly interesting sight.
Welcome!
