One of the world’s most beautiful train stations is located in Uelzen. It was redes-igned in consideration of Friedensreich Hundertwasser’s schemes as a cultural and environmetal train station. The ̀Hundertwasser-Bahnhof Uelzen’ is in walking distance from the historic timbered-centre. The pedestrianised shopping area and art spots create a special scenery. Cosy Cafes and restaurants invite their guests to remain for a while.

Uelzen’s cultural offerings promise memorable moments. The Theatre by the Ilmenau offers a varied programme that is especially suited to the culturally aware. The castle Holdenstedt, which locates the regional museum and a unique glass collection, is the highlight of the ̀Holdenstedter Schlosswochen’, a cultural event with a fascinating programme of concerts, exhibitions and lectures. Every three years a flute competi-tion with international participants is dedicated to the musical heir of Uelzen, Friedrich Kahlau.

The unique medieval goldsmith piece was brought to Uelzen by Hanseatic salesman. The ̀Ulenköper-monument’ which represents the history of Uelzen and serves as a tourist attraction at the same time, can be found nearby the church.
