Online-Card - Braunschweig

In the high Middle Ages Brunswick developed into a wealthy city with merchants doing business on the major trade routes and powerful craftsmen´s guilds. The river Oker which is navigable from Brunswick allowed travellers from the south to continue their journeys directly to the North Sea. This led to Brunswick becoming a member of the Hanseatic League in the 13th century and made it one of the most influential cities in the Middle Ages.
