Beckum is in the southern part of the district called Kreis Warendorf, embedded into the delightful park-landscape of the Münsterland. The slight increase around the city, the “beckum mountains”, belongs to a the few uprisings in the Münsterland. Beckum is directly to one of the most important east-west circuits, the A2, and is in short distance to the Ruhr district, the east-westfalian area and the centre of the Münsterland. The course of the three brooks, the source rivers of the Werse, decorate the emblem of Beckum. With the brook runs it´s about the Lippbach, the Kollenbach and the Siechenbach. They also were it, which helped the city Beckum to her name.

Bekehem or Bikehem is not called anything other than “brook-home” - the home at the brooks. Today Beckum is the residence of nearly 38.000 inhabitants. With the districts Neubeckum, Vellern and Roland. Beckum today is an attractive central center.

Since 1224 the city Beckum possesses its municipal law. However already in much former times a settlement on Beckum´s ground is proved. Three stone crate graves can be belonged to the oldest certifications of human culture in Westphalia. Today the city Beckum belongs to the district of Warendorf and is a modern industrial city with country-wide meaning.
